The Career of a Cabin Crew Member/Flight Attendant
This is an exciting and very rewarding career with lots of opportunities. The main and most important reason for employing Cabin Crew or Flight Attendants by an airline is to look after the safety and security of the passengers, aircraft and crew. Besides this paramount aspect of the position it is also to look after the comfort, care and serve the valued customers. The passenger spends a long time during the flight interacting with the Cabin Crew or Flight Attendants, so it is obvious that these individuals will make the biggest impression and ensure that the passenger will travel with your airline again.

If you love to work with people and enjoy traveling, then this is the job for you. In order to meet the requirements, Cabin Crew must be friendly, approachable, flexible and very professional to be able to express how much the airline cares for its valued guests. In addition, the prospective crew member must be able to comply with the following:
 
REQUIREMENTS:
  • A Matric certificate (Grade 12)
  • At least 18 (eighteen) years old
  • Must be an able bodied person with excellent general health and in possession of a DD50 Aviation Doctor Certificate. This must be acquired before the course starts. Contact details of accredited doctors can be obtained from the school.
  • Must be conversant in English. (English proficiency testing may be required)
  • Must be able to swim well enough to help yourself and others in the water. If not, swimming classes must be attended during the course at own expense.
 
SIX WEEKS TRAINING INCLUDES:
  • Evacuation Commands And Announcements
  • Practical Use Of All Emergency Equipment Including Escape Slides
  • Theoretical And Practical Aspects Of Emergency Landings On Land / Water (Ditching)
  • Aviation Medicine                                                                                  
  • Dangerous Goods
  • General Operating Procedures And General Cabin Crew Duties 
  • Aircraft Familiarisation And Theory Of Flight
  • Security And Safety
  • Crew Resource Management (CRM)
  • Other Courses Such As Soft Skills, Make-Up, Wine Tasting, etc.
The final examination will be conducted by the South African Civil Aviation Authority (SA CAA) where after a Cabin Crew licence will be issued to the successful individual.
 
PRACTICAL TRAINING:
•   Visit to the SA CAA approved swimming pool to demonstrate your life jacket skills in the water, helping others and get into the life raft
•   Visit to the Fire fighting academy and to extinguish fire in the aircraft mock up
•   Visit the Comair aircraft mock up to follow commands ,exit the cabin and jump down on the evacuation slide
•   Visit the SAA B 737 to do practical aircraft familiarization
